| MILLENNIUM TEXT SERIES |
| The works in “Millennium Text Series” engage the potential layered meanings and interpretations of mark making as attributed to the written word. The materials used in their making reflect my consideration and perception regarding the political, social and cultural consciousness of America at this current marker in time, the turn of the century. My muse is the news – mostly via radio. Listening has been translated into seeing/reading; and with this, an alternative, corporal space for meaning is created. The visual images in “Millennium Text” examine the function of language and its relationship to the physical. This physicality of the letterforms allow for contextual shifts from their more common signification to a broader interpretation. Having a background in graphic design provided insight into how powerful the effect of words can be on the public. Language bridges the private world of thought with the public discourse of shared experience. The brevity of the text is intended to be both familiar and new, engaging and accessible. |
